Privacy policy
Short version: Yomi does not collect, store or sell anything you read. There is no account, no tracking and no advertising.
Last updated 22 October 2026.
The iPhone and iPad app
The app collects no data. Everything happens on your device:
- Text you type, paste or share into Yomi is annotated on the device. It is never sent anywhere.
- Screenshots and photos are read by Apple's on-device text recognition. They are never uploaded, and the app has no server to upload them to.
- Camera and photo access are used only when you choose an image to read, and only for that image.
- The dictionary ships inside the app, so reading works with no connection at all. Yomi does not keep a history of what you read.
- The only thing saved is your reading settings, such as text size, and they stay on your device. Deleting the app deletes them.
The app contains no analytics, advertising, tracking or third-party data collection.
The website
- Typed and pasted text is annotated in your browser and never leaves your device.
- Screenshot reading on the website is the one exception: the image is sent to an AI service (Google's Gemini API) to extract its text, and the text is sent back to your browser. Yomi does not store the image or the text. Google processes it under its Gemini API terms, which allow Google to keep and review submitted content to improve its services. If you would rather keep an image private, type the text instead, or use the app, which reads images on the device.
- The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes standard request information such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site. Yomi itself sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
Children
Yomi collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. A change that collects data from the app would also be shown in its App Store privacy label.
